Dr. Hayes is a Professor in the College of Education with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Psychology. He teaches graduate courses in counseling theory and an undergraduate class that provides an introduction to counseling. His scholarly work focuses on college student mental health, as well as psychotherapist factors that affect the process and outcome of therapy. Dr. Hayes' research has received funding from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the American Psychological Foundation, and other agencies. He is the editor of Psychotherapy Research, is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, has served as past-President of the North American Chapter of the Society for Psychotherapy Research, and is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania.
