Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy

Literacy begins at home. Parents as well as children should have the opportunity to develop their language and literacy skills. Family literacy programs do just that. And, now we can add the resources of the Goodling Institute to help develop more literate families through family literacy programs.

Remote Instruction for Family Literacy Programs:
Dealing with COVID-19 Challenges
in the Virtual Classroom

With adult education and family literacy classes and schools on hold, it is important for instructors, parents, and children to have resources to continue learning at home. Many programs are adapting to challenges providing remote instruction and distance learning to keep in touch with families. The Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy webinar provides suggestions for practitioners to deal with these challenges in family literacy programs.

Ideas for creating online learning opportunities for parents and children to learn together and examples of virtual lessons to use in a family literacy program were offered. Digital resources were reviewed and included apps and website links that can be used for adult and parenting education; early childhood education, and interactive literacy activities.
