Shortening a page's URL

Plone automatically creates the URL for pages as they are created by taking the title and making it a "short name."

This short name becomes the last element in the URL (web site address) that references the page or object you have just created.

You can shorten the name by following this process:

  1. Go to the folder that houses the object.
  2. Click on "Contents."
  3. Find the object in the contents list and click the square next to it.
  4. Click "Rename" at the bottom of the page.
  5. In the form that appears, type a new shorter reference to the page in the "short name" field. The short name should all be lowercase letters, numbers and dashes.
  6. Click "Rename All."

PLEASE NOTE: changing the short name will change the URL of the object. Links within the site should still work, but any links from outside sources that reference the previous short name will be broken.
