Daniele D. Flannery is Associate Professor of Adult Education, and a co-coordinator and faculty in the Women's Studies Program at Penn State-Harrisburg. Her scholarship interests are in the area of adult learning, particularly cognition and the sociology of learning and knowledge. Her recent works include articles and chapters which focus on gender, race and class and adult learning. She has published two books: 1) an edited book, Applying cognitive learning theory to adult learning, and 2) Women as learners: The significance of gender in adult education, as well as numerous articles. Dr. Flannery received the 2001 Houle Award from the American Association of Adult and Continuing Education for outstanding contribution to the field of Adult Education for her book Women As Learners. Dr. Flannery serves as a reviewer for The Canadian Journal of Adult and Continuing Education and for the Human Resource Development Review. Her consulting and service activities focus primarily on issues of the education of women and girls, the development and assessment of learning in many settings, including health care, business, higher education and other-than-profit centers, and in outdoor experiential learning opportunities. At present Dr. Flannery is particularly interested in women's learning, and on the influences of culture on learning.
